Q3 2021 quarterly valuation update for the energy and infrastructure sector | spotlight: energy price volatility

Welcome to the Q3 2021 edition of our quarterly valuation update, which provides a snapshot of some of the main publicly available valuation trends across the energy and infrastructure sector, covering both debt and equity metrics.

This quarter we continue to look at trends in debt and equity metrics relying primarily on publicly available information. In addition, we have included a spotlight on ongoing energy prices volatility in UK and Europe, focusing on the drivers, and near term and longer term forecasts.

Three trends from Q3 2021

  • A continuation in Q3 2021 of the key trends in Q2, with continuing low cost of debt and a stable picture around the pricing of infrastructure and renewable energy funds.
  • Funds have again commented on how the competition for assets is driving down discount rates.
  • But the short term volatility has not had a significant effect on valuations which are ultimately driven far more by the long-term picture.
